Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) Usage and Privacy Policy
[Business name] uses an automated license plate recognition system at its parking entrance and exit. This policy is published in accordance with California Civil Code §1798.90.51.
Authorized purposes
Automated license plate recognition (ALPR) is used only to record vehicle entry and exit times at this parking facility, calculate parking fees, and resolve billing disputes.
Who has access
Access is limited to authorized parking operators and administrators who have individual, password-protected accounts. Operators can view current and recent parking sessions; administrators can view history and reports.
How the data is protected
Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored on a secured server. The database is not reachable from the internet. Vehicle images are served only to logged-in staff. All edits and fee overrides are recorded in an audit log.
Sharing, sale, and transfer
ALPR data is not sold. It is not shared with third parties except (a) the image recognition service provider used to read plates, which processes images on our behalf, and (b) as required by law, such as a valid subpoena or court order.
Accuracy and corrections
Every plate read is confirmed by an operator before it is saved. Low-confidence reads are flagged for review, and manual corrections are logged. Customers may contact us to correct inaccurate records.
Retention
Vehicle images are automatically deleted after 30 days. Text records of parking sessions (plate, times, fees) are retained for accounting purposes for [X years] and then deleted.
Monitoring and custodian
The facility manager is the custodian of the ALPR system and periodically reviews the audit log to ensure the system is used only for the purposes listed above.
